The 3 Mistakes Everyone Makes While Eating That Cause Bloating, Acid Reflux and Indigestion!
A food coma is something that we all experience now and then, but if you are experiencing it every weekend or each time you go out in a restaurant, then something need to be changed. It is not normal to feel belated, sluggish and sleepy after every meal.
Of course, you know this and I know this, but still 90 % of the time the culprit is overeating. Unluckily, many of us are not even aware that our eating habits make us to feel this way.
Following, we recommend you the top 3 unhealthy habits that you should avoid at your meals that cause bloating, acid reflux and indigestion:
Drinking lots of water with your meal
When the food enters the stomach, a particular substance, known as hydrochloric acid (HCL), is secreted from our stomach lining to help start the digestion process.
Solution:
Consume plenty of water one hour before meals and one hour after meals. Just sip on 1 glass of water through your meal.
Eating lots of starch and protein together
Mashed potato and steak, eggs Benedict, burger with fries, are just a few combinations, which make us want to pass out on our couch after.
Consuming large amounts of starch (e.g. pasta, bread, potatoes, rice) and protein (e.g. chicken, eggs, beef, fish) at the same time could cause acid reflux and indigestion.
This is because the protein has slower rate of digestion, and starches digest faster in simple sugars.
Solution:
Consume your starch first and follow it up with a protein afterwards. Do not sweat it if you are having small portion of starch together with the protein, the main key isn’t to overdo the potatoes and rice.
Having ice-cold water with your meal
Ice-cold water will solidify the fats that are being consumed, making them very difficult to digest as well. Also, the energy from your body will get diverted from trying to digest the food, and try to regulate the body’s temperature.
Solution:
Think like Japanese. You can order a hot water with lemon or green tea, before you start the meal and slowly sip on it in order to prime your gut for an optimal digestion. You should always tell the servers “room temperature” and “no ice”.
Do not forget that these tips are for an optimal digestion.
